Ahndeleck's Virtues

This page will always be in a state of flux. Understanding of the virtues that I wish to pursue is something that will change through life. As I explore my old journal and the life in general, I will refine and add to this page as I need to.

Awareness

The nature of who we are is complex, and as such its important that we understand that. Understand what makes us tick, why we feel the way we do, and where that comes from. For if we do not know ourselves, how can we even be sure of who and what we are? If we cannot even do that, there is no way for us to understand the universe around us or the others that surround our lives.

Open-mindedness

There is so much of the world that we cannot understand. There is so much about other beings that we cannot understand. But that should never stop us from trying to understand these things, and approaching others with an open mind can lead us to understanding and awareness. Always try to see both sides of the coin.

Honesty

Honesty with others and one’s self helps us all better understand the world around us. Failing to be honest though brings us to conflict and drives us all apart. First I believe being honest with yourself is most important. Look at what is going on inside yourself and around you, understand it all for what it is. Then be certain to be honest with others so they can understand the world around them, and better understand you as well.

Growth

We as beings should constantly be moving forward to better states, improve the body, the soul, and your surroundings. Without growth there can only be decay, and that will only lead all to suffering. As such strive against it through growth. While there is never an end to this the effort, and even failure to grow, will help us better ourselves and the world around us.

Temperance

There must be a balance of several things within one’s self. Losing that balance leads to many different problems. Keeping that balance creates a space for the other virtues to shine. There must also be a balance of of action beyond the self as well. Keeping this external balance extends the virtues beyond yourself and to the world at large.

Care

Care is a driving force behind our lives. Who and what we care about help give us direction and meaning. It helps us sort out our perception of the world into what we will and will not interact with. It comes in many different forms, and shows up in many different ways. It can be part of why we love someone, or hate someone. Knowing and understanding care can tell us a lot of why we do what we do.
